SISTER LUCETTE VEILLETTE After a lengthy illness, on October 29, 2000, Sister Lucette Veillette, at the age of 89, returned to the Father at the Grey Nuns Provincial House. Lucette was born in St. Tite, Quebec to Georges Veillette and Alice Charpentier on March 4, 1911. She entered the Grey Nuns novitiate in Montreal on February 5, 1932, made her temporary commitment on August 15, 1934. Three years later, she consecrated herself totally to God by pronouncing her perpetual vows at the Mother House in Montreal. Her first assignment was in Longueuil, Quebec then in the Orphanages of Liesse and Chambly-Bassin, where she worked with the children and the poor as house mother. But this was short lived as she was called to share the Lords cross for many years in the Sanatorium at St. Agathe, Quebec and St. Vital, Manitoba. Following these years of solitude, she came to Manitoba where she served as sacristan for 33 years in St. Boniface General Hospital, St. Josephs Hospital in Gravelbourg, at the Provincial House and in Ste. Rose. From there she was assigned to visiting the sick for 20 years at St. Boniface Hospital, a work she enjoyed doing until 1992 when she retired at the Provincial House. Woman of prayer, she spent long moments with the Lord in the silence of the chapel and her room; she had a very special place in her heart for the priests for whom she prayed a lot. Sister Veillette was predeceased by her parents, her four brothers and her Sister Blandine, also a Grey Nun. She leaves to mourn, her religious family, her sister Lucille and sister-in-law Germaine, some nieces and nephews. A liturgy of the Word will be held on November 1 at 7:30 p.m. at the Grey Nuns Provincial House. The funeral mass will be celebrated by Fr. Leo Couture at the same place on November 2 at 10:00 a.m. The Desjardins Funeral Chapel in care of arrangements, 233-4949.

She was very dear to our family also very good friend to my mother Henriette St. Laurent...she was there for my mother most of her life helping her cope and offering words of encouragement...she was between my sister and I at our mother's funeral holding us as we struggled with our mother's death. Amazing woman ...we love you! - Posted by: Yvonne St. Laurent (special place in our family's heart) on: Nov 06, 2014
